"Newspapers Really Should Worry"

This is a very important and significant issue for me. Being a communications major and writing minor with hopes of someday writing for a major newspaper, it worries me when I hear the theories that the print newspaper will soon be dead.

Ever since the printing press was invented, the public has been getting their news in the form of a print pamphlet. Since then, technology and development has improved greatly, yet, the print newspaper has always been constant.

In a day and age where all analog music recordings have been replaced with digital MP3's and all off-air local broadcasting will cease their analog signals, it is surprising that the newspaper is still the main source of news for most Americans. And why wouldn't you pick up a newspaper? Just flip it open, and check out all of the news stories for the day. And the advantage that a newspaper has over CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC is that of a local section. Who wants to hear national news all day? Just flip open the print and read about your city and home.

As a staff writer and the exclusive photographer for The Niagara Index, I have had a fair share of time with the print media. On no other medium can you get as deep of a connection with the reader, while expressing a point or idea at the same time. Print news has been around for ages, and in my opinion, I see no end to it. This is the career that I want to get, and I don't see an end in sight for this field in the near future.

My experience with Web Writing

I have had a decent amount of time and experience with writings for the web, as well as other technical benefits of media for the internet. Being a former Computer Science major myself, I have had a great deal of time on a computer, publishing my works and programming code.

However, due to great deal of effort and time that I could not put into the Computer Science field, I have since changed to Communications Studies, in hopes of being a news writer. Through my CMS courses, I still learn about many of the new technologies and get hands on training with most of it.

Writing for the web is much different than writing in print, so this will be a fun and new experience for me, and I greatly look forward to writing for the web. Being a writer, I must be able to write my works over many mediums in the media, and I am excited to start putting my writings on the internet!
